Vocabulary Lesson
• Tools Available
o Choice Tool – each student can “grab” one word and save his/her choice
• The students’ choices are summarized for you.
• You can limit students’ choices if you wish.
o Glossary Tool (is empty when you set it up)
• Course Glossary and Secondary Glossary (2 separate glossaries are available).
• Add a new entry by adding a word
• Add their definition
• Save
• Multiple students can look at their definition and respond to it.
• Students can then collaborate.
• Teacher can then approve or disapprove the definition.
o Online Vocab Sentences can then be submitted.

• Forum Tool
o Allows students to chat and talk – defending a position.
o You can see everyone’s responses
o Time lapse – basically immediately
o Associated with Student Names
o Teacher needs to post the questions AND respond first so a threaded discussion can be started.
o Pitfall – Homework and inappropriate responses.
o You can set the times the forum responses are open to monitor inappropriate comments.
o You may “poll” your discussion and have students submit what side of an argument the students would take. (Possibly a thumbs up or down rating).
Possible Projects
Quotes Project (use with Forum Tool)
• Students pick 10 quotes from a book and writes two paragraphs on each quote
o one paragraph on the quote
o second paragraph on why the student chose the quote
Book Choice and three reasons why you selected this Fiction novel.
Submitting Online Text
• Teacher can place a prompt and students can respond and submit answers.
• Teachers can then place comments and grade the assignment.
• You may place comments in the text the students submitted OR in the comment boxes.
• DO NOT WRITE DIRECTLY IN ONLINE TEXT. Student should copy/paste or upload a document so they do not loose their work due to a “hiccup” with internet access or some other tech problem.
